The DC Cancer Consortium is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the reduction of cancer in the District of Columbia through prevention, improved treatment and research.
These are our goals:
• Facilitate coordination and cooperation among the organizations working with cancer prevention, detection and treatment
• Conduct outreach and education for residents of the District of Columbia
• Provide a comprehensive clearinghouse for the public and health care professionals on cancer services
• Facilitate professional education programs focusing on cancer prevention.
History
The Consortium was founded in the 1980s by concerned health care professionals, advocates and community leaders in the District of Columbia. The organization facilitated funding for research, treatment and cancer prevention for the District government. After some inactive years, the Consortium has been reinvigorated and is now firmly focused on District-wide efforts in cancer prevention, screening, public education and outreach. Our leadership and members played the major role in creating the DC Cancer Control Plan 2005-2010.
