Intended outcome (purpose) of this event: Experience one hour of yoga led by a highly skilled yoga practitioner followed by one hour of group support led by an experienced, licensed psychotherapist. The gentle stretching and deep breathing of yoga promote inner peace and relaxation. This state of mind allows us to access our inner thoughts and emotions. This new series, led by experts, will create a safe, comfortable place for group members to share concerns, feelings and thoughts related to living with cancer.

Who should attend: All are welcome. We especially encourage cancer survivors, lesbian-identified women, and parents to attend if you are interested in volunteering with Mautner Project. We welcome anyone who wants to improve their listening skills and expand their capacity to contribute to their community. No experience necessary.
Intended outcome (purpose) of this event: What makes a great listener? How can you support someone in crisis, when you just don't know what to say? Our Creative Listening Workshop is a dynamic and interactive learning experience that will improve your confidence in any setting. The workshop will be facilitated by Reverend Linda Calkins, an Episcopal priest and grief counselor, who will share effective techniques for building meaningful connections through conversation. Rev. Calkins will discuss what “creative” means in a listening context, identify verbal and non-verbal communication cues, and examine the differences between hearing and listening. Using the Creative Listening approach will help you to feel more comfortable discussing sensitive issues, and maintain healthy boundaries. The workshop will be followed by a brief information session for those interested in joining our Client Services Volunteer Program.

Activities are intended to reduce the fear and stress associated with cancer, examine personal beliefs and behaviors that do not contribute to wellbeing, and explore healthier ways of living and choices among treatment options. Retreats provide resources and health-supportive activities such as gentle yoga, stress reduction techniques and small group discussions with experienced staff.

Intended outcome (purpose) of this event:This two-day executive training program will equip decision-makers at resource-strapped organizations with the tools and resources needed to launch and sustain navigation and survivorship programs, two cornerstones of patient-centered care. Participants will learn strategic planning techniques for developing, implementing, evaluating, and sustaining patient navigation and survivorship programs. The training will combine distance-learning and traditional classroom instruction to fully maximize participants time. Prior to the training, participants will engage in an online webinar discussion that will lay the foundation for skill development during the two-day training in Washington, D.C. At the conclusion of the training, participants will walk away with a formalized business plan for either a survivorship or patient navigation program that will enhance the patient focus of their organization.

Event Name:Patient Navigation Training in Integrative Cancer Care

Who should attend: New and experienced cancer patient navigators who wish to develop their practice to include integrative cancer care and apply a more holistic approach in their interactions with patients. Both lay professionals, including cancer survivors, and health care professionals are encouraged to attend. Space is limited.
Intended outcome (purpose) of this event: The goal of this program is to assist new and experienced navigators in the successful establishment of an integrative healthcare- or community-based navigation practice.
This training offers information and tools to provide holistic navigation to patients throughout the treatment continuum -- care that supports each individual physically, emotionally and spiritually. In addition, we will be offering a special section on supporting patients with gastric cancers. This training is based on the model developed at Smith Farm Center and has been used successfully for more than four years.
Following the training, participants will be able to:
* Define cancer navigation and the role of navigators
* Effectively communicate with and guide individuals through cancer
* Describe integrative cancer care and basic integrative cancer therapies
* Learn and use basic, proven integrative mind-body therapies with clients
* Facilitate clients identifying and accessing integrative therapies
* Build an effective support system for navigators
